# CheckoutTreeStepType

> What a step of a checkout tree does.

| Value | Description |
| - | - |
| `BLOCK_CHECKOUT` | Ends the tree: the shopper can't check out. |
| `EXPERIENCE` | Ends the tree: shows a checkout experience. Its config names the experience. |
| `SEGMENT` | Sends the shopper down one branch by a fact about the checkout. A binary segment leaves by `matching` or `nonMatching`; one with more branches, by each edge id in its config. |
| `SPLIT` | An A/B test: assigns the shopper a treatment, and leaves by that treatment's id. |
